Laiwang already got the more than 10 million registered users. And their next challenge is to get more than 100 million users within the next year.

Posted on 08:44 by Unknown
Recently the Alibaba group and the former CEO Jack Ma are strongly promoting their own IM tool 'Laiwang', but according to their announcement, the registered user of Laiwang already exceeded 10 million people now.

And Jack Ma said their next challenge will be getting more than 100 million users  within 2014. According to their announcement, its active users are rapidly increasing, and they said that its growth rate is over 500%.

And Jack Ma also said that they will be challenging toward to WeChat, and it may seem impossible, but they will make strenuous efforts the 'impossible' changing to 'possible'.

Now Laiwang is providing it Android and iOS client and Web browser version now, but its functions are almost similar to WeChat, and there is no definite difference with it.

So I think it's difficult that Laiwang will beat WeChat at this time, but Alibaba group 'Taobao' has more than 400 million users on their mobile client. So if Laiwang will focus to enhance the linkage function with such an EC solution, they will have a bright future that they can change current 'impossible' situation to 'possible'.

Each Chinese internet service visit duration ranking in 2012. Sina Weibo was ranked 3rd place.

Posted on 07:55 by Unknown
For each internet services, the number of users is naturally important, but the visit duration is also very important. Meanwhile HTWISE just published the visit duration ranking of each internet services in China.

all visit duration in 2012       Share               Type of Service
                            (Unit : billion hours)
#1 Baidu                           5.61                          7.0%                 Search Engine
#2 Taobao                        4.12                          5.1%                 EC
#3 Sina Weibo                 1.81                          2.3%                 Weibo
#4 Youku                          1.59                          2.0%                 Video Sharing
#5 Baidu Tieba                1.37                          1.7%                 Community
#6 Qzone                          1.32                          1.6%                 SNS
#7 Tudou                          1.06                          1.3%                 Video Sharing
#8 QQ Mail                       0.96                          1.2%                 Mail
#9 Baidu Knows              0.85                          1.1%                 Collective intelligence
#10 Renren                      0.74                           0.9%                 SNS

In 2012, Chinese search engine giants Baidu was the 1st place of this ranking, and their 2 other services were also ranked in top 10. So it can be said that they are just the internet giants in China.

Chinese EC giants Taobao was the 2nd place. They have the top share of BtoC EC market in China, and its market is still rapidly growing, so it may be a natural consequence.

Sina Weibo was ranked 3rd place, but there are little bit difference with top 2. Video sharing service "Youku" and "Tudou" merged last year, both were ranked in top 10.

Next is the graph of focusing to Weibo services.

The left graph is the number of visiting to each Weibo in annual of 2012.
Sina Weibo was totally visited about 1 billion times in 2012. Tencent Weibo was visited about 0.5 billion times, and Sohu Weibo was visited about 0.4 billion times, and NetEase was visited 0.1 billion times in 2012.

The right graph is the ratio of visit duration on each Weibo. Sina Weibo had 71% share in this, and it was a landslide victory.

In 2012, Sina Weibo showed the overwhelming presence in Weibo market. But as I said, there are little bit difference with top two. Furthermore Weixin also exist their backward. 2013 is still challenging year for them.

Alipay started to provide their open platform service for corporate users.

Posted on 20:50 by Unknown
Alipay started to provide their open platform service for corporate users yesterday.

They publish APIs of payment, accounting, billing, trade, sales and so forth. At the moment, Alipay only provide its APIs to the corporate user, but they will also provide them to the personal users in near future too.

According to the report from Eguan, Chinese online payment market size was 976.4 billion RMB(=155.04 billion USD) , and Alipay have 46.9% market share in the third quarter.

They would like to increase their partner by this open platform, and it seems that they would like to establish their firm position in the Chinese online payment market as ever.

Taobao also started to provide their own map service.

Posted on 23:53 by Unknown
Last week, the biggest BtoC EC site in China, Taobao started to provide their own map service.

Taobao will start to enhance each area service via this map, and would like to accelerate their O2O business, such as LBS Ads. And they now already have over 100 million mobile user, so they will surely accelerate their mobile solution relies on this map service.

Baidu also formally established LBS division and upgraded their map API few weeks ago, so it means that their fight already started in this field too. This fight is also a highlight in Chinese Internet market.

Tencent CEO Pony Ma said that WeChat user will exceed 200 million people in this month.

Posted on 08:58 by Unknown
"2012 China Internet Conference" was held in Beijing today. And at this conference, Tencent CEO "Pony Ma" said that WeChat(Weixin) user will exceed 200 million people in this month.

WeChat user exceeded 100 million people this March, so it follows that this user increased 100 million people in the six months.

And he also said that Tencent will accelerate the following two things in the mobile internet area:

1. O2O business
They placed QR code as the door of mobile internet, and they will accelerate their O2O business by its technology.

2. Security solution
As mobile internet user increase in China, then its security risk is increasing. So they will establish the specific fund, and they will accelerate the solution of this area with partners.

Recently, their rival company started to provide similar solution with WeChat, such as Meyou(Sina), Wangxin(Taobao) in China. And LINE is also steadily increasing their user in Japan and other Asian country.

So I am interested whether their new action can make accelerate increasing their users. Let's keep a very close watch in future action.

Taobao formally released their IM tool "WangXin".

Posted on 08:54 by Unknown
Today, Taobao formally released their IM tool "WangXin".

At the moment, it seems that they provide its Android and iPhone client.

And its main functions are as follows:

User can get the news from Taobao.

Voice Chat feature

Friend search feature based LBS.

Taobao said that they estimate its user will be 15 million people at the end of 2012, but is it possible? Actually, from the perspective of IM function, the function of WangXin  is inferior to WeChat(Tencent) or Meyou(Sina). But from the perspective of the cooperation tool of mobile shopping on Taobao, they may have the possibility of success, because Taobao already have 100 million mobile users, and it is estimated to exceed 200 million people at the end of 2012.

We have to continue watching their action as ever, and also have to watch that other internet giants, such as Baidu or Sohu, will follow this trend or not.
